WhatsApp appeals Irish DPA fine for GDPR violations
Publish Time: 17 Sep, 2021

According to the Irish Times, WhatsApp has issued legal proceedings aimed at challenging the €225 million fine recently announced by the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC). The DPC had found a number of violations of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), with respect to transparency requirements (notably its articles 5(1)(a); 12, 13 and 14). WhatsApp claims this decision is unconstitutional and incompatible with the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The appeal process has been initiated in the Irish High Court.
