The State Council in China has released the country's artificial intelligence (AI) development plan, intended to contribute to making China the world leader in AI by 2030 and build a national AI industry of $150 billion. According to media reports, the plan covers a wide range of areas, from voice recognition and gathering evidence and reading court documents, to robots to be used in deep-sea exploration and military security. The plan outlines three milestones: by 2020, companies and research facilities are expected to match the level of other countries such as the USA; by 2025, AI is expected to become 'a key impetus for economic transformation', and by 2030, China is to become 'the world's premier AI innovation center'.
